Iron Man Comes Alive in Billings

Jackson Laverman was never any good at starting a project and finishing it. At just 16 years old, he thought it was time to break that habit. After nearly 400 hours of meticulous construction, Laverman had himself a very impressive Iron Man suit.

"My parents thought I was crazy. My friends thought I was crazy. I really didn't hang out with a whole lot of people. But once it started to take shape, my family was really supportive. They would be like, why aren't you working on it right now? The deadline's coming up. I'm Jackson Laverman and I built an Iron Man suit."

"The model gets printed out onto sheets of paper and you take an exacto knife and you cut them out. My mom was mad at me because there were scraps of paper all over the house. You cut them out, glue them together and it looked like that, except in paper, so you get an actual, physical, three dimensional paper helmet."

"So, why Iron Man? It looked cool. Ha ha, why wouldn't you want an Iron Man suit, let's be honest. It's such an incredible feeling wearing something."

"It's obviously uncomfortable, but when you walk into a room, like the movie theater I went to, people just look at you and they're like, holy crap, that's Iron Man. And now, they can't see your face, so you're kind of removed from the situation in a sense, so you can be whatever you want. I don't dance in public, but I danced inside an Iron Man suit because I could and nobody knew it was me."

"It was really an incredible feeling. Especially with the little kids, ya know? Seeing their faces light up, you just get smiles everywhere, which is really special."

"I'm in school now, up at Bozeman studying Mechanical Engineering, so I've kind of been engineering minded my whole life and that's kind of where this game went. I'm planning on doing something cool with engineering. Maybe build a real Iron Man suit, who knows? That would be kind of cool."

Laverman, a Billings native, has been quite the Internet sensation, racking up roughly 2 million views on YouTube after his friend posted a video of him at Shiloh 14 theater in his Iron Man suit.
