Car Sales End Year with 8% Increase

BILLINGS -

Local car dealers have something to smile about. Car sales were up more than 8% in 2013 compared to 2012, that's according to the National Automobile Dealers Association.

Here in Billings, Underriner Motors is seeing a double digit increase. Underriner has seen an increase of 18%, much higher than the national average. Bill Underriner says more customers are coming in ready to buy, rather than "just shop", because more customers are shopping online ahead of time.

"People do their shopping on the Internet and they narrow it down to one or two places that they want to go or one or two cars that they want to buy. And so, you see a lot less shopping in the showroom than you do before. People are really ready to buy," says Underriner.

Associated Press reports auto sales have increased by more than a million cars a year since 2009. Unsderriner says the dealership expects sales to increase 11% for 2014, but even so, he says there will still be opportunities to get great deals.
