City Says too Early to Determine Budget

Posted: Updated:

City Managers in Billings said it's still to early to tell if this winter will have a negative effect on the city's budget.

Some of the products the city uses to clear the streets are liquid deicer, sand, and granular ice melter.

Deputy Public Works Director, Vern Heisler said this year, the department's budget is $826,000.

He said $143,000 has been spent since the October storm.

"We're talking about what goes into our snow removal budget, or snow fighting budget. It's the materials that we've talked about. It's the trucks that we use, which includes operation of maintenance of those vehicles as well as the fuel that goes into them so there's a lot that goes into them," Heisler said.

Heisler said public works will always find a way to take care of the ice, and snow for the community.

Heisler also said the city is on a fiscal budget, which means the financial cycle starts on July 1st and ends on June 30th.
