Montana U.S. Senators are asking the Defense Department to delay a nuclear missile study.

Senators Jon Tester and Max Baucus want more time to wait for funding decisions from Congress for 2014. The environmental assessment on Minuteman Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles is required before the air force can make changes to the structure of the force. Four hundred fifty missiles are in Montana, North Dakota, and Wyoming.

Last week, President Obama signed legislation allowing the Defense Department to begin the study.
