Riverstone Health held its 20th annual Candlelight Vigil for the homeless program at the Yellowstone County Courthouse lawn.

The vigil honors the homeless who have passed away this year. People who attended where asked to bring donations of warmth, such as hats and gloves.

Clarence Salley of Healthcare for the Homeless says the average life span for a person living on the street is 48 years old, compared to 78 years old for the general population.

"The first day of winter is always the shortest day and the longest night to be out in the winter weather, and people are very susceptible to hypothermia. On any give night in Yellowstone County there are over 1000 people, and 500 of them are children and families, trying to find a warm place to stay," said Salley.

Clarence encourages the community to get involved and volunteer at the mission or one of the healthcare facilities.
