Shine Celebration

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS -

Four years ago, Navigate Church created Shine, which is a benefit to celebrate Christmas and raise money for the Montana Rescue Mission.

This year's Shine celebration will include the west coast swing dancers, a girls choir from School District 2, caroling, and various Christmas celebrations.

The MRM is asking for cash donations to help out with operating expenses for the 2014 budget.

Pastor Jill Riley says the event is a great way for churches to help out in the community.

"We will be releasing over 300 Chinese lanterns and singing outside in the street together and so people who aren't able to come will be able to celebrate that and know that it signifies a prayer for peace for our community and for our world," said Riley.

"We charge nothing for our services no fees or what have you for the folks that stay with us. We try to provide for them everything that we can from food to clothing to a place to stay," said Perry Roberts, Montana Rescue Mission Executive Director.

The Shine celebration will be Monday, December 23rd, at the Billings Depot.

Streets that run for several blocks, without a single street light. It is a dark reality many residents throughout the Magic City face when the sun goes down. Leo Robinson lives on Monad Rd., east of 24th Street. He said if street lights were placed on Monad, safety for everyone would improve. Terry Smith, City Traffic Engineer, said the city is more than willing to work with anyone, on any street, which lacks street lights.
