Addictions During the Holidays

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS -

The holidays can be a difficult time for people struggling with addictions such as alcohol or food.

It's especially hard when you're around relatives who are drinking and partying.

Billings Clinic Director of Psychiatric Services, Lyle Seavy, said that you should be aware of your family members addictions.

Seavy also said to leave the alcohol out if you know someone is struggling with it.

"You know if there's someone in the family that you know has issues with food, don't put a whole bunch of extra snacks out during the holidays. If you have someone who has an issue with alcohol, don't put four bottles of wine on the Christmas table or put rum in the eggnog," Seavy said.

Seavy said to encourage your family members to get help. Facilities for treating addictions include Rimrock Foundation, Overeaters Anonymous, and Alcoholics Anonymous.
