A hospice serving terminally ill people lost a battle to stay open. Horizon Hospice Home is now officially closed.
The 6-bed facility that was run by Riverstone Health shut down because of not enough demand.
Riverstone currently still runs a 12-bed facility in the West End, which will stay open.
CEO John Felton said they did run both facilities for two years, but Riverstone did not need both.
"It's kind of like how a family will buy a house and that house serves the needs for a while at some point you need a bigger house. You don't need two houses. You just need a bigger one, and that was what really happened here," Felton said.
Felton said they haven't turned anyone away or delayed admissions for the West End location. He also said that they did not have to layoff their staff, but reassigned them to new roles.
