Lockwood Gets $6.2 Million for Sewer Services

LOCKWOOD -

Lockwood Water and Sewer District moves a step closer to help bring sewer services to the entire area.

The US Department of Agriculture presented a check to Lockwood leaders today for $6.2 million. The funding is made up of both loans and grants.

It will go towards Phase II of the Wastewater Project with construction starting in the summer of 2014.

"This is huge for us, this is a 6.2 million dollar financing package. It includes little over a 2 million dollar grant which has substantially lowered the asset for each individual property owner here." says Carl Peters, Lockwood Sewer District.

Lockwood residents will still decide on a bond initiative for the Wastewater Project that would bring that investment up to more than $12.5 million. If passed, residents will have an increase of their property taxes based on the property's value.
