Montana Paleontologist to Receive Highest Honor

Big news for a well-known Montana paleontologist. Jack Horner has won the highest honor given by the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology.

He's on his way to Los Angeles to receive the Romer-Simpson Medal this Saturday.

The lifetime achievement award will be presented during the SVP's 73rd annual meeting.

Horner is the Regent's Professor of Paleontology at Montana State University and curator of paleontology at the Museum of the Rockies.

Society members say he is receiving the award for his outstanding scholarly excellence and service for vertebrate paleontology.

The organization will also honor filmmaker Steven Spielberg.

An interesting aside, Spielberg directed the Jurassic Park movies for which Horner was scientific consultant.

SVP representatives say the fact *both* men won is a complete coincidence.
