Some State Health Plans Are Going Away

Montanans with a specific health insurance plan will need to find new coverage by the end of the year.

John Doran of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana says those on the Montana Comprehensive Health Association, or MCHA plan, need to switch plans by December 31st.

Doran says the MCHA plan was originally set up to help people who are at high risk obtain health insurance.

He says the plan was eliminated by the Montana legislature during this last session, as the legislature decided there was no need for it because the Affordable Care Act prevents companies from denying anyone health insurance.

"We're confident that the plans that Blue Cross is offering on the health insurance exchange are extremely competitive. They're exceptional plans at a very affordable price . So we feel like everyone who's transferring will have the opportunity to find a similar plan at an affordable price," says John Doran, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana.

Doran says Blue Cross administered MCHA plans for about 25 years.
