Straight No Chaser in Billings

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS -

A capella group Straight No Chaser is in town Tuesday night for a concert at the Alberta Bair Theater. One of the members has his roots in Laurel.

Don Nottingham's father is from Laurel. Even though he grew up in Colorado, he visited Billings and Laurel numerous times as a child.

He said Straight No Chaser started as an a capella group in college. After working as a lawyer, he received a phone call from his friends who wanted to start the a cappella group as professionals. He quit his job and became a full-time musician with his friends.

"This is the sort of thing that just doesn't happen everyday, or at all, ever," Nottingham said. "You know it's something when those kind of opportunities come along you have to grab on and so far it's worked out. It's been quite a ride."

He said 25 of his relatives were at the performance tonight. He also says he encourages aspiring musicians to perform as much as possible.
