Refresh The Rims Day

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS -

Students from Montana State University Billings woke up early this morning to keep the Magic City clean.

Organizers are calling it Refresh the Rims day. The project is a collaborative effort between MSU-B and the Billings Parks and Recreation Department. Planners say the community effort is a way of keeping Billings' iconic rims looking beautiful.

"We use the rims, we recreate on the rims all the time, and there's so much trash, there's nothing picked up. We just really want to clean up the area that we love and that we use," says event organizer, Kayla Brown.

Refresh the Rims started at 9:00 AM Saturday, and finished at noon. Planners say eight groups stayed busy covering a four-mile area.

Streets that run for several blocks, without a single street light. It is a dark reality many residents throughout the Magic City face when the sun goes down. Leo Robinson lives on Monad Rd., east of 24th Street. He said if street lights were placed on Monad, safety for everyone would improve. Terry Smith, City Traffic Engineer, said the city is more than willing to work with anyone, on any street, which lacks street lights.
