Lewis Kicks Off Campaign for US House

HELENA -

One candidate wants to be the first Democratic representative from Montana since the 1990's.

John Lewis, a long-time staff member for Senator Max Baucus, kicked off his campaign today for the seat currently held by Republican Steve Daines.

Many political analysts expect Daines to run for Baucus' Senate seat as he retires.

Lewis, a Billings native, says he wants to help get Congress functional again.

"Look I have no illusions that one person can easily change the way congress operates every night. But it's got to start somewhere. And there's no question that for the last 17 years this seat has been part of the problem. Not part of the solution. And we can change that," says Lewis.

He will now face five other Republicans, Champ Edmunds, Matt Rosendale, Corey Stapleton, Ryan Zinke and Brad Johnson.

Lewis will be in the Magic City on Tuesday morning for a campaign stop.
