Planting for the Future

BILLINGS, Mont. -

South Park got 40 new trees Friday thanks to Northwestern Energy and Billings Parks and Forestry.

The trees are a part of Northwestern Energy's "Planting for the Future" program. It aims to beautify the communities the company services.

"Again, we were looking for opportunities for our employees to volunteer in the communities and it's also to raise awareness about tree planting and we found that it's a great partnership with the cities and the communities that we serve," said Rick Burt, Northwestern Energy director of community relations.

The program is meant to spread awareness about calling 8-1-1 before planting a tree to avoid hitting utility lines. Northwestern Energy also suggests looking above where your tree will grow so it won't hit power lines. The company has 12 tree plantings scheduled this fall in its service areas.
