Satellite Voting Sites Appeal in Court

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND -

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments Thursday for an appeal for satellite voting sites on Native American reservations.

According to the advocates, it is difficult for Native Americans on reservations to get to voting sites. Advocate Tom Rodgers says the reservations are often isolated and residents are poor and can't afford to travel long distances to vote. He says easier access to vote will allow them to bring up and solve their issues.

"This is a landmark case," Rodgers said. "The ability of Native Americans to have the same access to voting and the same opportunity to vote."

The Court has not yet come to a decision on the appeal.
