YRPA Kite Fest

BILLINGS -

The fall weather is a prime time to go fly a kite and that's just what people did Sunday at Amend Park.

The event was all for the Yellowstone River Parks Association's first Kite Fest. YRPA organizers decided to promote the use of parks throughout the area. The organization is made up of volunteers who work on trails in Yellowstone County.

"It's kind of both as a nice relaxing day and something that they could use to bring attention to their work and the work yet to be done in the parks," said Drake Smith, Sky Wind World kite designer.

Hundreds of people attended Sunday's event. Some brought their own kites while others constructed their own at the event using kite kits.

They YRPA organizers say they hope to make Kite Fest an annual event.

Can you imagine building a hotel by stacking one floor on top of another? That’s what’s happening in Yellowstone. The Park’s lodging concessionaire, Xanterra, tore out hundreds of old cabins in Canyon Village, and started construction this summer on five new lodges to replace them. The new lodges are actually modular jigsaw puzzles.
