Independent School Supports Teacher

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS, Mont. -

A morning assembly started with dancing and pink today, for the sixth grade students at Independent School.

The class came together to recognize breast cancer awareness with music and dancing, and to show support for a teacher fighting her own battle.

"We want to celebrate cancer survivors and we want to help those that are still fighting, still dealing with it," said Rebecca Reinker, 6th Grade Teacher.

"I'm right now fighting cancer. I've been fighting it since 2009, and still in the process of the fight. But it's huge, and to have the support of the students, staff, everyone, it's been phenomenal," said Darcene Butler, 6th Grade Teacher.

The students are gathering gifts during October. They plan to donate all of the toys to the pediatric wings at St. Vincent Healthcare and Billings Clinic.
