National Public Lands Day

Posted: Updated:

Saturday is National Public Lands Day at Pompeys Pillar, which marks the end of the summer traveling season.

The monument caretakers are hosting several volunteer projects. Organizers are helping with fence removal, landscaping, and boardwalk repair. Monument manager Jeff Kitchens says the Boy Scouts and Montana Conservation Crew make up a large number of those volunteers. Kitchens says National Public Lands Day is the nation's largest single-day volunteer event.

Pompeys Pillar's visitor center opened at 9 AM and closes at 6 PM Saturday. Organizers say all entrance fees were waived Saturday.
