Third Annual Yellowstone Grape Stomp

BILLINGS -

Montana may not be wine country, but hundreds gathered on Billings' West End to celebrate the beginning of the grape harvest.

The third annual Yellowstone Grape Stomp commenced Saturday at Yellowstone Cellars & Winery.

Five thousand pounds of grapes were brought in from Washington State for the event.

The event kicked off with crushing, which is the process of stomping and fermenting the grapes, so the juice can be put into barrels for aging.

"It's a celebration, but a lot of fun. And it's family, but it's all about the grapes, and the harvest, and the fruit," said Clint Peck, Grape Stomp Organizer.

The stomp lasts until 6 PM Saturday night, with music wrapping up from 7 to 9 PM. Organizers say the harvest will last through the end of October.
