VFW 100-Year Celebration

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS, Mont. -

VFW Post 6474 honored a special guest during their 100-year birthday celebration Friday night.

The local community paid tribute to Armithea Borel, the Purple Heart veteran who was elected as the National President of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW in July.

Borel, a Louisiana resident, was full of excitement to make the trip to Billings.

"I think I should have lived here all my life, because everyone I see, they exhibit the country, the cowboy look. Their hospitality is that," said Armithea Borel, National President of The Ladies Auxiliary VFW.

The guest of honor was among a group of people who want to bring awareness to veterans.

"This celebration is a century gone, and a brand new year. Then we celebrate the milestone, and the road to freedom, and what we've always stood for in support of our comrades and the veterans of foreign wars," said Judy Arnold, Montana Ladies Auxiliary President.

The main reason for the celebration was for Armithea Borel, and the organization's 100th birthday.

Borel says she's excited for the future.

"I'm seeing the need for service officers, and those are the people who help people fill out paper work, and file claims, and things like that. So I think that's what I'm going to do," said Borel.

This year she's focusing on strengthening membership and serving veterans through national programs.

Borel says this is the 19th state she's visited so far, and she's heading to Wyoming's VFW tomorrow.

Borel says the VFW's mission is to serve the veterans of this country and their communities.
