Bed Race in Downtown Billings

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS, Mont. -

The Montana Rescue Mission Hopefest celebrated with bed races in downtown Billings today.

The main goal was to raise awareness about the rescue mission.

Volunteers say the rescue mission provides shelter for the homeless, and also helps people get back on their feet.

"It's important just to bring people together, give them an idea that this part of town isn't scary, that homeless people aren't scary. They're just like you and me," said Perry Roberts, Montana Rescue Mission Executive Director.

"We're very much a part of the community and what can be better than providing beds for people who that don't have beds? Beds and food go hand-in-hand. I mean, they're the bare necessities of life," said Craig Austin with Food Services of America.

The event attracted nearly one thousand people to downtown Billings. All of today's proceeds will benefit Montana Rescue Mission programs.
