Post Office Celebrates 100 Years

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS -

In 1913, the post office in downtown Billings opened its doors. And on Tuesday, post office workers celebrated the 100th birthday.

The economic downturn started closing post offices around the nation a few years back. But here in downtown Billings, post office workers wanted to celebrate the historical building, and thank the customers for coming back each day.

"With the post offices going on the downcline right now, it's really important to point out that there's not going to be some of these post offices here in the future. And we're trying to show that we are proud of our post office and we'd like to see it stay here," says Stacie Colarchik, Sales Service Associate at the downtown Billings post office.

Colarchik and a handful of other post office workers paid for the celebration themselves and started planning more than two months ago. Part of the celebration included comparing the prices of milk, gas, and stamps from now to the prices back in 1913.

Firefighters are wrapping up their work on a blaze northwest of Cody. The Dillworth Fire, which was visible from the Chief Joseph Highway, grew to only six acres. It’s indicative of the mild fire season in the Shoshone National Forest and Yellowstone so far this summer.
