What Led Up To Cody Lee Johnson's Fall In GNP

Many are still in shock over the allegations leveled Monday at Jordan Linn Graham, accused of pushing her newlywed husband off a cliff to his death in Glacier National Park.

Johnson's closest friends-- however-- tell ABC FOX Montana they are not so surprised.

I sat down with one of Johnson's longtime friends, who first introduced the couple nearly two years ago.

"After reading the affidavit, I was not surprised," said Levi Blasdel.

Blasdel first introduced Cody Lee Johnson to his wife, Jordan Linn Graham.

Although news sources across the nation, and the world, shock with baffling headlines, Blasdel points to several telling moments in the couple's two-year courtship that foreshadowed what was to come.

"Cody was putting everything into the relationship. He put 110% all the time and we really weren't quite sure if she felt the same way," explained Blasdel.

Cody and Jordan first hit it off two years ago on Halloween. Blasdel says sparks flew even though Johnson flew down to South America a short time later, paying fifty cents a text message just to keep in contact with his new love interest.

"I told him 'you cannot get too attached to her yet,' because we were about to leave for South America," said Blasdel.

Blasdel knew Graham from church and, at least initially, he thought the pair seemed like a good fit--leading into a six month engagement.

Then, just months before the wedding on June 30, Graham announced an impromptu trip to California with her brother with no more than a day's notice to her fiance.

"You just don't do something like that," said Blasdel, "Cody was saving up everything, every last penny that he could for the wedding and here she is going to be taking a vacation to California."

The final interaction Blasdel had with Graham last Christmas proved, in his eyes, how controlling Graham could be. He says he believes she worked very hard to isolate Johnson from his close circle of friends, who were critical of their relationship.

"[Cody] had talked to Jordan--'see, it wasn't that bad. You guys all got along great.' Obviously we didn't talk much...and she's like 'I never want to do that again,'" Blasdel recounted.

Blasdel says he began earnestly suspecting Graham when she gave up the lease on the house meant for her future family, only two days after Johnson went missing.

Graham appears in court again Wednesday in Missoula.
