Malta Teen Sentenced in Shooting

MALTA -

A teenager who accidentally shot and killed another teen during a hunting trip will avoid jail.

The case involves 16-year-old Logan Wilson, who was shot while hunting with two other teens in October 2010.

Police say the two boys initially reported Logan accidentally shot himself, but it quickly became clear that wasn't the case, because Logan was shot in the back of the neck. Eventually one of the boys told investigators he was walking behind Logan when he tripped and fell and his rifle accidentally went off.

The 17-year-old Malta area boy pled guilty to negligent homicide. The judge sentenced the teen to probation until he turns 21.
