The West Nile Virus is showing up in Yellowstone County.
The Yellowstone County Health Department and the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services confirm the first human case of the illness. It was diagnosed at a Billings hospital and reported last week.
The patient, a Yellowstone County woman in her 50's, was not hospitalized and is expected to fully recover. The health departments report she did not travel outside of Montana within the last month.
Health experts say the West Nile Virus is most commonly found in people over 50. But they recommend every Montanan should take precautions such as staying indoors during the early-morning and evening hours, dressing in long sleeves if outdoors, and applying insect repellent with DEET.
