Blankets and Bears Fundraiser

BILLINGS, Mont. -

Though Christmas is months away, organizations are already gearing up to put smiles on kids' faces.

The blankets and bears project provides new pillows, cases, a fleece blanket, and teddy bear for children in the community. The bundles cost about $30 each.

The Menace Motorcycle Club is helping the cause by putting on a fundraiser this Saturday. They hope to come up with at least 500 bundles this year. Kids in the foster care system of the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch will be some of the recipients.

"I think it gives our kids some self-esteem," said Rick Hamblin, YBGR's therapeutic family support director. "It shows them that there are people in the community that care about them, and they're willing to go the extra mile make sure they feel special at Christmas."

"A lot of these kids haven't ever had anything brand new that's theirs," said Levi Mowrey, Menace Motorcycle Club's vice president. "It's a lot of it have all been hand me downs or reused stuff, and to give them something like this that they can have that's theirs and been theirs from the start, it's phenomenal."

The fundraiser will be at Bones Brewery on 1425 Broadwater Ave. Saturday at 7 PM. There is a $10 cover for the five music and three comedy acts. All proceeds are going to Blankets and Bears.
