Billings police are investigating an early morning shooting that left one man dead. Officers responded to a report of a man pointing a gun at another man around one o'clock Tuesday morning. When they arrived at the scene on 12th Street West, they found a 49-year-old man who had been shot several times in the chest. He was hospitalized, but died a short time later.

Witnesses tell police they heard five to ten shots. They also say two vehicles fled the scene just after the shooting. Initial witness reports indicate one was an SUV and the second was a small pickup.
