Red Lodge Fire 30% Contained

RED LODGE -

Fear, and faith do not dwell in the same heart in Red Lodge. Sarie MacKay said, "I'm not afraid because I have so much faith in the firefighters and the incident command I'm just so full of faith that they're going to manage this." Even though Sarie lives 4 and a half miles away from the fire, she's narrowed down a list of must-have items to take, if she has to evacuate.

Sarie also says, "It's one of those things that you think about what would you take if they came to the door and knocked on the door and said you got to go and you have a little list of the stuff that you would get in the car, the dog, you know maybe the photo albums, the jewelry box, a favorite painting, the things that mean the most to you in the whole world."

At the latest Red Lodge fairgrounds meeting, authorities say the fire is now 30% contained, but even though the Rock Creek fire has burned 900-acres, Shawn Pearson, says, "With as steep as these mountains are the amount of fuel that's in the mountains is how are we going to get on top and go around, that's the million dollar question that we're trying to put the puzzle pieces together and figure out."

One of his firefighters was airlifted this week when a tree snagged on top of his leg. They flew him out, and his recovering back in his home state. Hotshots have been brought in to help from all over the country.

It's not always glamorous. In fact, the 250 assisting with the fire all live in tents, and say teamwork is everything.
