Stillwater Tactical Teaches Gun and Personal Safety

BILLINGS -

Local women had the opportunity to fire more than 200 rounds at the shooting range today as a part of a personal safety and two pistol courses.

Stillwater Tactical held the personal safety course to help women become more aware of their surroundings.

"There's ways that you can mentally prepare yourself and things you can do that actually make you a harder target and we'll cover some of those in the initial class," said Alexander Roth, Stillwater Tactical's owner and instructor.

Afterwards, the women learned how to safely handle their handguns, and then headed out to the shooting range.

With the crime going on in Billings, women came out to hone their skills.

"I am here because I am a concealed weapons permit carrier and practice makes perfect," said Kara Lekse, one of the participants. "I have two little kids and I want to be very proficient with my handgun."

"Billings is becoming a more dangerous place and I think the community has become aware of that and there's a need there to fulfill this training requirement and allows people to develop their skills to make themselves safer and feel safer," Roth said.

The instructors trained the women to continue good practice habits, so they can improve their shot even after they leave. After completing the Pistol I/II courses, the women are qualified to apply for concealed weapon permits.
