Junior Skating Medalist Teaching Kids In Town

Posted: Updated:

For aspiring ice skaters in the Magic City, getting valuable instructions could be difficult.

"Billings is a small market for skating. We do have quite a few skaters, but if you're gonna train, you go to a bigger city, like Spokane and Denver," said Cathy Goettel, President of the Yellowstone Valley Figure Skating Club.

But an instructor from Riverside, CA is in the Magic City this week to give some valuable instructions on ice.

"I actually came to work with the kids and other skaters here, to choreograph their programs, and help them with technical aspects of their skating," said Felicia Beck, who won a bronze medal in the U.S. Junior National Championships in 2002. Felicia said she flew into town this week.

"She was willing to come work with some of these skaters that may never go to a regional competition, but are just as hard working," said Cathy.

On Wednesday evening, Felicia was at Centennial Ice Arena, giving instruction to kids eager to learn.

"She taught me the Waltz Jump I was learning, and a bunny hop," said one of the kids at the arena.

"They're doing very well. I'm impressed with all the improvements since I've been here in December last year," said Felicia.
