BILLINGS - Governor Brian Schweitzer gained a major political endorsement Tuesday. The National Rifle Association threw its support behind the governor in his bid for re-election.
"He's a tremendous supporter of anyone who cares about the outdoors, about the second amendment, about our freedoms, about fishing and hunting," said Wayne LaPierre, of the NRA. "I'm proud to be here to endorse him for re-election as governor of Montana."
The NRA said Governor Schweitzer's commitment to the outdoors and investing in public lands makes him a strong candidate. "In Montana, gun ownership is a family value," said Gov. Schweitzer.
In 2004, the NRA endorsed Schweitzer's Republican opponent, former Secretary of State Bob Brown.
