BILLINGS -

Officials say there is a new sheriff in town for Three Forks starting this fall.

Last week the Three Forks City Council approved a five-year contract to replace the town's police officers with Gallatin County Sheriff's Deputies. Their start date will be September first.

According to City Council members, the Three Forks police chief resigned back in February, leaving two patrol officers. They say it will cost $251,000 through the end of the year, and then $300,000 every year.
