Bear Spray Demonstration

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS -

Bear spray demonstrations are being offered at Cabela's immediately following the first bear attack of the summer at Yellowstone National Park.

Chuck Bartlebaugh is the director of a campaign to teach people how to stay safe in bear country. He says in order to use bear spray effectively, spray for a minimum of seven seconds, from a distance of about 30 feet away.

"Once you have your bear spray you need to practice removing it from your holster, removing the safety wedge, which you just put your thumb in front and pull back, and holding the can firmly so it doesn't tilt up in the air," says Bartlebaugh.

A free bear spray demonstration will be held Saturday at Cabela's from 9 AM to 6 PM.
