BILLINGS -

Radio DJ Belle Braaten stood at an intersection with her beloved puppet, Smokey, waving down drivers.

Braaten was luring drivers to the first-ever "Sharing Happiness Day" at the Billings Ronald McDonald House.

"When they said they needed our help, Smokey just insisted on coming," she said with a grin.

The event featured a nice trade-off: spare your change, then grab a free Coca-Cola and a Domino's pizza slice. Event Organizer Lana Myers says she's very happy with how generous people were being throughout the afternoon.

"It's actually above and beyond what I expected," she said.

The Ronald McDonald House accommodates out-of-town families that are staying in Billings for their children's medical care. Ronald McDonald House Executive Director Connie Grammens says she's impressed with how Billings supports visitors at the house.

"They come from outlining areas and outlining states, but our community is so gracious to help us out," she said.

After a great turnout and positive experience, Grammens and Myers hope to make the event annual.
