Backpacks, Supplies Donated to Orchard Elementary

BILLINGS -

Students going back to school at Orchard Elementary along the Billings South Side have something special to look forward to; new backpacks full of school supplies to kick off the new school year.

Family Service Inc. workers filled 400 backpacks with folders, binders, and other school supplies, which were donated by the community over the past two weeks.

Principal Julia Mattson of Orchard Elementary said she is extremely thankful to the community for helping her kids get the best start to the year as possible.

"It helps them feel successful and be able to have all the supplies that are needed to feel like they aren't missing out on opportunities or be able to come prepared. They're just ready to go," said Mattson.

According to Family Service Inc. Director Stacy Brown, the group believes by ensuring each student is ready with supplies on the first day of school, kids can start off on the right foot and have a better experience throughout the year.

"When kids get those backpacks and they open them up and they find all of those new pencils and Crayolas, I don't care how old you are, when you see all that new stuff, that gives you excitement," said Brown.

Enough backpacks and supplies were donated to allow every student at the school to have everything they need on the first day of school.

You can still donate to Operation Supply at Rimrock Mall.

The extra supplies will go to other kids in need in Yellowstone County.
