Waters Changes Plea

Posted: Updated:

One of the men accused of killing Sidney High School teacher, Sherry Arnold, changed his plea in court Tuesday.

A District Court judge accepted Lester Van Waters' guilty plea of deliberate homicide by accountability. In exchange for Waters' plea, prosecutors are recommending a 100-year prison sentence, which would spare Waters the death penalty. The deal means Waters' charge of attempted kidnapping will be dropped, but he will have to testify against co-defendant Michael Spell. Waters and Michael Keith Spell are accused of abducting Sherry Arnold while she was jogging in January of 2012, killing her, and burying her body in North Dakota in an oil field.
