Senior Day at the Fair

BILLINGS -

Mitzie Hartman just returned from paragliding in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Oh, by the way, she turns 90 next month.

"I told them at exercise (class) that I was going to do it this year," she said with a giggle. So I didn't dare not do it."

Hartman mostly credits being active for her long and healthy life. And since Monday was Senior Day at MontanaFair, she and 1,000 other seniors citizens had a very active afternoon.

Hartman and members of a senior workout studio called Fitgevity Fitness put on a demonstration after the provided lunch, which was served by nearly 60 volunteers. County Commissioner John Ostlund says Senior Day is easier to plan these days, as the amount of volunteers is growing as the number of attending seniors grows.

"Everybodys just down here having a good time," he said. "The seniors have lunch, and it's a volunteer lunch, and then they wander around the fair and see all the things that we're showcasing this year."

Wednesday is Kids' Day, when children get in free with an empty Pepsi bottle. Thursday is Energy Day, and Friday is Veteran's Day. There are tons of specials this week, just head to Montanafair.com and click on deals.

Susanne Rodell faced a difficult situation. Hail storm damage to her roof led to an insurance claim being filed. Rodell picked a local contractor to fix her roof, but mother nature did not cooperate. While the roofing company was in the middle of fixing her roof, a weekend of rain caused water damage to dry wall and ceilings within the house.
