Severe Weather Plans for MontanaFair

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS -

Thunderstorms in the Billings area Friday served as a reminder on how bad weather could affect outdoor events like MontanaFair. Fair officials say they have a plan on what to do, should severe weather strikes.

Anne Gauer with the fair says if fair officials see lightning in the area, they will close down the taller rides. She says the entire midway area will close if there is severe lightning in the area. At that time, security staff will escort fairgoer indoors, until the weather improves.

In the event of high winds, Gauer says fair officials will determine which rides to close on an individual basis, since each ride has a different tolerance limit for winds.

The fair itself will not be canceled due to severe weather, said Gauer, as indoor events will continue to function as normal.
