Montana Highway Patrol troopers report the four occupants, ranging in age from 11 to 15, were not wearing their seatbelts.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Toman Baukema says the driver was a 15-year-old boy from South Dakota. Two 14-year-old girls and one 11-year-old boy were also riding in the vehicle.

Witnesses say the driver of the Chevy Avalanche was speeding and driving erratically before crashing into the guardrail. Troopers say the rail impaled the engine, driver's seat, and door.

Trooper Baukema says the driver is still at Billings Clinic being treated for serious injuries.
