Autism Conference at MSU-B

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS -

One in 50 American children have autism. But what happens when they become adults?

Today, an autism conference at MSU-Billings explores this transition. Dr. Peter Gerhardt spoke about adolescents with the disorder as they become adults. He says the change is a very important time for people with autism, and events like this spark intrigue.

"It stimulates interest," he said. "It gets people thinking that people with autism are more than their label, that people with autism are people... with likes, dislikes, senses of humor, challenges and limits. Just like the rest of us."

The conference runs through tomorrow.
