Billings Unemployment Rates Continue to Fall

When it comes to employment, there's something enchanting about the Magic City. Mayor Tom Hanel credits the city's success, in large part, to its diversity of jobs available.

"We are very, very honored and pleased to say we have a variety of employment sectors, opportunities," he said.

From energy to medical to transportation, there are options for every age group and experience level.

"Billings is rather unique in that we cater to both the younger and older generations," Hanel added.

Billings currently has a 3.9% unemployment rate. The number has hovered just above, or below, 4% for the past several months, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The national rate stands at 7.6%. Barbara Wagner, Chief Economist at the MT Dept. of Labor, says the state is in great shape, partially because of the oil boom.

"The Bakken certainly is bringing in a lot more cash into Montana during a time frame when the country, and even the world, is having a lot less money flow," she said.
