Women's Self Defense Classes

Posted: Updated:

Many women are taking action to defend themselves because of recent sexual assaults and home invasions in Billings.

Nearly two weeks ago, the Billings Police Department held a free women's personal safety event. Now, other businesses are following that example. This week, Three Sights Shooting Range and the Billings Martial Arts Association are holding classes for women to learn basic self defense moves and situational awareness.

"These are skills that everybody can use. If everybody can't use it, then it's no good. It need to work for a women that jogs and lifts weights as well as for a women who is fifty years old , has had injuries and just isn't as strong as she used to be. These are the kind of things we're going to be passing on," said Nadine Fredrickson, co-owner of Three Sights.

Three Sights will hold their first class Tuesday, beginning at 5:30. It's free and there's no need to sign up. The Billings Martial Arts Association will hold their class Thursday beginning at 6, at the Shrine Auditorium. This class is also free, and women under 18 must be accompanied by a parent. Both classes encourage women ages 14 and up to attend.
