BILLINGS -

A big congratulations goes out to a Billings middle school teacher, as he was finally honored by a national organization.

In February, KULR-8 News brought you the story of Hunter Jones, an 8th Grade history teacher at Will James Middle School. He was selected by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) to receive the 2013 National Teacher of the Year Award.

Jones received the award in Louisville, Ky, Tuesday. He shared the award with a teacher in Illinois, and another from Florida. In a speech, Jones said despite a very personal loss, he is grateful to have received the award.

"My mother passed away at the end of last year, about two months before I got a call from the national VFW," said Jones. "And so, I have to think that she's up there, looking down, proud as can be that I have this honor. I cannot thank you all enough."

According to the VFW website, their National Teacher of the Year Award is given to those who promote civic responsibility, flag etiquette, and patriotism.
