Murder Suspect Refusing Return to Montana

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS, Mont. -

The teen who police say admitted to killing his great grandmother on the Billings south side last Friday is refusing to waive extradition.

According to Yellowstone County Attorney Scott Twito, 19-year-old Robert Thompson is refusing to return to Montana from Colorado. Twito will now follow legal protocol by going through Governor Steve Bullock's office to seek a warrant for Thompson's return.

Thompson is being charged with deliberate homicide for the murder of 77-year-old Shirley Lawrence on Murphy Avenue last Friday night. According to Twito, it could take thirty to sixty days for the warrant to be issued. Until then, Thompson will remain in Colorado.
