Bear Euthanized Near Campground

Posted: Updated:
RED LODGE, Mont. -

A black bear is euthanized, after it's believed the animal recently broke into two occupied tents at the Sheridan Campground, south of Red Lodge.

Campers reported on the morning of July 13th, the bear ripped through a pop-up tent trailer and a backpacking tent. None of the campers were injured. U.S. Forest Service officials closed the campground. Three days later, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks put down a black bear which fit the description of the animal.

FWP advises cabin owners to bear-proof their property by removing anything which looks or smells like food. Campers should store food in secured vehicles, bear-proof containers or away from tents.
