Model Rockets in Amend Park

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS, Mont. -

With a pop and a whoosh, model rockets flew into the sky this morning at Amend Park.

Fifteen fifth graders from the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Club built their own rockets and sent the skyward. They tested two different kinds of engines to see which would launch the rocket higher. This is a part of the boys and girls club science, technology, engineering, and mathematics effort.

Henry LaFever, a volunteer with the Boys and Girls Club and a member of Big Sky Education Enhancement, hopes this will help kids figure out their interests.

"This is important because it gets kids interested in science and the big place we need people in the future for careers is going to be science and engineering."

Some of the kids will participate in the Team America Rocket Challenge next year where they design and build their own rockets.
