Maintenance on 17-Mile Recreation Area

BILLINGS -

A crew from the Bureau of Land Management spent Wednesday working to maintain 17-Mile Recreation Area.

The BLM started at 8 AM, grading shooting lanes and repairing fences and gates. After last year's fire season, this work will help to prevent fires and allow those that do occur to be controlled, according to Tim Finger, BLM recreation specialist.

"By trying to do some road work and some fencing and put some gates in as well as trying to inform the visitors a little bit we may not have to have the issues we had last year," he said.

The new fences will also stop cattle from wandering into the shooting lanes. The area will be open again after 4 PM.
