Billings-Owned Chopper Crashes In Colo.

Posted: Updated:

Authorities in Southwestern Colorado say a helicopter owned by a Billings company crashed in the area Tuesday.

In a statement, Dolores County Sheriff's Office said a helicopter owned by Billings Flying Service crashed approximately five miles east of the town of Dove Creek. The town of Dove Creek is about 284 miles northwest of Albuquerque, NM.

The helicopter pilot, according to Sheriffs, died during or shortly after impact. They say no one on the ground was injured. The pilot's name has not been released.

Sheriff's officials said the helicopter was contracted to a company that is conducting seismic exploration for Kinder Morgan. In the press release, Sheriffs noted that similar explorations have been done in Dolores County in the past year, without mishap. Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will reportedly arrive at the scene Wednesday to investigate.

Doctor Scott Bea says a fear of clowns is most likely due to the elusive nature of their appearance. Because clowns wear makeup and conceal their identity -- they can create uncertainty. He says it's similar to when children are terrified by mascots or characters with masks. Clowns used to be whimsical characters folks associated with the circus -- but over time -- depictions of clowns in movies and on television have associated them with more sinister things.
