St. V's Stroke Camp

BILLINGS -

A weekend camp specifically designed for stroke survivors is in the works. The "Retreat and Refresh Stroke Camp" is set for September 27-29th in Red Lodge at Rock Creek Resort. Peggy Clifton, nurse coordinator of the stroke program at St. Vincent Healthcare, says the camp will be about education, relaxation and fellowship

"Recovery is slow, and they can lose hope," she said. "So that's a perfect opportunity to bring them back together and offer them support in a retreat setting, to get them engaged and livened up again with the rehab experience"

St. V's takes care of about 200 stroke patients per year, Clifton says. But it's never a one size fits all solution. Dr. Anita Venkataramana says recovery can be anywhere from hours to years.

"Strokes are different in size, different in symptoms, even different in location," she added.

The cost is $25, with the St. V's Healthcare Foundation paying for the majority of the event. If you are interested in signing up, please go to strokecamp.org.
